My story
Hi, I’m Sam, the person behind Edge of Dreams. After finishing my PhD, I wanted to create a space to share another part of my life: my passion for travel. This blog is where I write about the places I visit, the experiences I have along the way, and the moments that stay with me long after a trip ends.
Travel has been meaningful to me for a long time. Before I ever started traveling on my own, some of my earliest experiences abroad came through family trips to Europe when I was younger. Visiting places like Romania, northern Italy, and the Provence region left a strong impression on me, and a high school trip to Paris was especially memorable. Those experiences gave travel a lasting importance in my life and shaped the way I think about place, memory, and discovery.
My first real solo trip came later, during my years of study, when I spent eight days in Barcelona. It was just after COVID, and I was not fully sure how I would feel about traveling alone. But something shifted for me on that trip. I realized how much I loved the freedom of solo travel: doing random things, following my curiosity, wandering without much of a plan, and letting each day unfold on its own terms. By the end of those eight days, I felt that I had discovered something important about myself. More than anything, I wished I had stayed longer.
That trip made it clear to me that solo travel was not just something I wanted to try once. It was something I genuinely loved. Since then, it has become one of the ways I feel most open to life: exploring new places, moving at my own pace, and finding meaning in the unexpected parts of a journey. Spain, in particular, has become one of my favorite places, and I’ve done numerous trips there up until now. It continues to hold a special place in the way I think about travel.
Through Edge of Dreams, I want to share those experiences honestly and thoughtfully. Here you’ll find reflections, destination notes, and stories from the road — especially from the perspective of someone who loves traveling solo, staying curious, and seeing where a place leads.
